About the Helping Hounds Program

The Helping Hounds Program began in November of 2009. The mission of the Helping Hounds Program is to work in conjunction with CPAA member rescue organizations and the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill to train rescued dogs to become companion, therapy and/or psychiatric service dogs to aid veterans living with the after effects of military service. Our trainer provides expert guidance to the inmates as they start the training and then carries that over to the veterans as they attend our weekly classes in order to complete each level of certification.

How Do I Decide Which Level of Training Is Right For Me?

The needs of each individual will be different which is why we developed a three-tier training structure. You can decide as you progress through the training which level is most beneficial to you. You must commit to the time frame for each training course, but you are welcome to take breaks in between to practice your skills, as well as determine whether you would like to continue on to the more advanced levels.
