What to Expect The program has a three-tier training structure to allow veterans to choose the level of training that best suits their needs and helps them to accomplish their goals. We will help you work with a dog who is already part of your family or guide you through the process of adopting a dog. In addition to helping you train your dog in basic obedience skills, we will also help you train your dog to perform tasks related to your PTSD. Your dog can learn to turn on the lights for you and wake you during a night terror, retrieve your medications at certain times of day, lead you to your car if you become overwhelmed in a public place, create a space barrier between you and approaching people, watch your back while you're focused on another task, alert you to approaching people and do a security check in a room prior to you entering it. There are a number of other tasks that we can also help your dog learn and can address these on an individual basis. We will work closely with you to train you and your dog to be able to accomplish the things that are most important to you from everyday tasks to long-term goals. Remember, all timelines are flexible. You can take as long as you need to complete each level and we will stand with you to offer whatever support you need. and still waiting for her perfect match. |
